Pete Pfitzinger writes the Pfitzinger Lab Report for Running Times, giving readers valuable insight on training. An exercise physiologist, Pete works as General Manager of the New Zealand Academy of Sport North, overseeing the sport science and sports medicine programs for over 500 elite and developing athletes. He also coordinates the national sports science program for Triathlon New Zealand and is the marathon advisor for Athletics New Zealand.

A two-time Olympian, Pete placed 11th and 14th, respectively, in the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Marathons. He placed 1st in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, earning him the ranking of #1 US Marathoner by Track & Field News in 1984. He has experience coaching national class athletes and is the co-author of two books: Road Racing for Serious Runners (Human Kinetics, 1998) and Advanced Marathoning (Human Kinetics, 2001).
