I rarely run on the TM anymore--much prefer to get outside. On extremely hot or extremely cold days I will sometimes do short recovery runs on the 'mill in order to have a more moderate temperature. I do enjoy being able to run in just shorts and a bra during the winter when going outside means 3 layers of clothes. The only other thing to keep me in is icy sidewalks and high yellow dust levels, which fortunately only means a couple days a year.
At home my TM faces a wall (because I want to be able to fold it up since I don't use it often) so I listen to music. Sometimes I'll rig up a portable DVD player but it usually takes me so long to find the player (buried in a kid's room) find the headphone extension cable (which the cat has dragged off), find the DVD I want (which usually ends up being scratched), and figuring out where I can put the thing that it doesn't fall that I give up, curse loudly, and just stare at the wall.

I used to have a collage I made of pictures and inspirational words from running magazines but I recycled it last time we moved. I cut out tons of pictures to make a new one but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I could actually stare at that thing for quite awhile without feeling bored. On the rare occasions that I use the TM at the gym, it's a treat to watch people working out or watch TV. I liked running while watching Jeopardy.

The farthest I've ever run on the TM is 12 miles but normally 7 is about my limit (1 hour). I've had quite a few close calls where I've drifted close to the back or hit my knee on the bar from being too far toward the front, but haven't fallen off. Yet.
Still not running but am working my butt off at rehab, literally. I've read hip problems can be caused by weak glutes so I'm trying to beef up my butt.
Cindy got back....
